May God's Blessings be with you this morning.   I am on a wee vacation so I will not be posting a full service.   Thanks to Pam Smith for taking our worship service this morning.    One of the weekly things that I do is write a message to our brothers and sisters at Rockton Sheffield and Lynden United Church that goes into their weekly Bulletin.    Here is what I wrote for this week.

I get to wear my historian hat again this week. Victoria Monday I was cooking in the 1840s. It really makes you appreciate ones gas stove and running water.  Being in the Lockhart Cabin, a log cabin built in the 1840s, there is that time before public programing starts that you can lose yourself watching your fire. It is a quiet time to be and to ponder.  Truly the world needs more small log cabins with a hearth to be and to ponder.

I was pondering the nature of the Trinity. If you thought explaining the Pentecost event was hard try this one.   Ah the Trinity the source of what I am sure were some rather heated theological arguments in the early Church.  It’s basic chemistry Passion combined with faith and beliefs always creates heat (of the emotional kind) Where it is true there are multiple examples of the various nature and person of God mentioned in scripture,  stories of Jesus and promise of the Spirit. There is no mention of the idea of a “Holy Trinity” This is a theological concept created by the early Church with ideas of it being written as early as 80 CE and really gets its first firm up at the  First Council of Nicene 325CE. In good Christian form there are Christians that accept the Trinitarian formula and those that reject it.     Like last week very interesting is there cake. Well no.

Trying to understand the Trinity is like listening to Abbot and Costello and their famous dialogue of “who’s on First?”

What do we do then with Trinity Sunday?  I think Trinity Sunday is once more an invitation to “be and ponder”  Ponder our relationship with God.  To ask how does Jesus influence our lives?  To seek the wisdom and direction of the Spirit.   Let’s not burden ourself with theology and doctrine.  Let us concern ourselves in knowing that God is with us, to hold the wisdom of Jesus and the gift of his death and resurrection and open ourselves to the direction of the Spirit knowing that we are not alone.

Prayers of the people

Slow me Down  Slow me Down

Still my restless mind Still my restless mind

Quell my fears Quell my Fears

Quench my Thirsty soul Quench my thirsty Soul

Fill me with your love Fill me with your love

God of Truth God of Truth

God of love   God of love

Today rather than a written prayer, we invite you to find that spirit place where you feel grounded.    Feel your breath.   Feel the rhythm of your heart.   Take some deep breaths from the belly and let them flow from you.  Open yourself to the presence of the spirit and the words you need to offer to God will come.    Know that our prayers on the sanctuary will be with you.  For through the Spirit we are not alone.
